This is an annoying problem that can be resolved by navigating to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\acrobat\shell\open\ddeexec\application and changing the Key "AcroviewA10"  to  "AcroviewR10"

 

This was reccommended by adobe support, Seems to fix the issue.

Yah, it can occur with reader too.  Also want to check and see if there is more than one instance of the process\service open as well. Often, a simple reboot will solve this issue with reader.
